Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- For the Filling:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. In a separate bowl, combine warm milk, olive oil, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 3. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 4. Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
- 5. Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- 6. Incorporate Tomatoes and Spices: Stir in the oregano, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Add the diced tomatoes and beef broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- 7. Stir in Parsley: Stir in the fresh parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly, at least 10 minutes for handling.
- 8. Assemble the Wraps: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
- 9. Fill and Fold: Place about 1/2 cup of the beef filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough in half, forming a half moon shape. Crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- 10. Bake: Place the baked beef wraps on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 11. Cool Slightly: Let the baked beef wraps cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
