Ingredients

  • 1 pound pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet, add garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook until fragrant.
  3. Pour in lemon juice and simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in Parmesan cheese and parsley. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add drained pasta to skillet and toss. Add pasta water if needed to reach desired consistency.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with more Parmesan and lemon zest.
