Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 taco shells
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in taco seasoning, water, and tomato paste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 7 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in lime juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Warm taco shells according to package directions.
  7. Fill each taco shell with the seasoned ground beef mixture.
  8. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa.
  9. Serve immediately.
