Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for added heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 taco shells (hard or soft)
  • Your favorite taco toppings (shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine all the taco seasoning ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 3 4 minutes, or until the onion is softened and translucent.
  4. Stir in the taco seasoning mixture. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the water and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 7 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the beef is coated in the seasoning. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Warm taco shells according to package directions. The oven usually works best.
  7. Fill each taco shell with the seasoned beef mixture and top with your favorite toppings.
